I just read the appendix on Doyle Brunsons Super System ONE about Razz and there is something I don't understand. Maybe someone can help me out.

The books says that if you are holding A234, the probability you are getting a wheel with three cards to come is 23,43%. So far so good...

But why are you making a six high (and only a six high) with A234 only 19,45% of the time. I mean with A234 already there is only on way to make a six high so why is the probability of getting a six isn't 23,43% ?

By the way, the probability making at least a six high is 42,88%

Your chance of catching a 5 is 23.43%.

Your chance of catching a 6 is 23.43%, but that also includes the times that you also catch a 5. So the chance of catching a 6 without catching a 5 -- that's where the 19.45% comes from.

One of the great tools to use for Razz odds is the Razz simulator at www.propokertools.com. I don't have anything to do with the company, but I used it to write my Razz book.

Frankly, I'm not sure their tool would answer this specific question. It does do everything else when it comes to Razz odds.

Agreed. Propoker tools has a terrific razz simulator with a lot of powerful features and I have used it a lot too. I have no affiliation with the owner of the site, but he provides these tools for free (including some HE and tournament analysis tools) and I urge all those who have profited from using his site to send him a donation via paypal to say thanks. One of the features it includes is the option to specify a range of cards (like "8 or better" or "3 or higher") for the downcards of any player so you can simulate the pot equity of one hand vs. another without having to specify exact ranks for hole cards. Use of this feature can prevent you from always imagining the best possible hole cards for your opponents, and would have benefitted thatslife's book.
