| ok so, gotten comfy with holdem, progressed to being fairly comfy with omaha, now i want to concentrate on stud. any overall newbie recommendations? |

poker tracker has a stud version. i've got the trial version, but have never really used it. maybe i should and start checking out what it offers me in terms of advice on my own play.
the first major recommendation i have about playing stud is narrowing your opening and starting hand requirements. just like in hold'em and omaha, starting requirements are a key fundamental in developing your game.
also reading the board and remembering dead cards is a must. say for example you have (55)9 and you see 1 (5) and 1 (9) already out on other players boards. a guy with a K completes to you. you should immediately fold this hand as your chances of improving have gone down durastically. since two of your cards are dead, and the chances you're already beat with the K completing, this is a folding hand. you want to make sure that when you play a hand, you're drawing live.

Byam game some good advice. I'll just add to it:
You need to always pay attention to other players boards and how they play them. Not just to keep track of your live/dead cards, but to narrow down WHY they are in the hand. You want to be raising and reraising early with hands that are good to eliminate the field. Yes, if you start with (AA)Q it could develop into a monster hand. But your goal is to eliminate the field with these types of hands so that players do not get cheap cards and accidentally run into a draw that will keep them in. Against one drawing hand, your in good shape. But this hand against 3 or 4 drawing hands will not bode well for you.
Also, playing strong draws is always a good idea AS LONG AS you are confident that your draw will win if it is completed. I see players all the time calling raises and reraises with a low str8 draw when one player has TJQ on their board and another has a 3 flush on their board and action is heavy. Even if neither of these players already has a bigger hand than your drawing too, there is a good chance one of them can hit it when you hit yours. |

| hey guys I know I posted this ages ago, just getting back round to it. Thank you all for the advice. I played play chip action with all three sexton brothers, and I held in for five hours. I'm proud of myself, and can definitely say to anyone reading this all the advice here is solid and you should take it. |
