I started playing a couple of years ago, and initially had really good success. After about 1,000 $6.50 games, I'd netted about a $500 profit. Now, I'm 5,000 games in and have netted just under $2,500. My ROI is at about 6%. The thing that's most depressing about this is that my poker UNDERSTANDING has improved exponentially, but the results haven't followed.
My style is a complete 180 from when I started and my reading ability is so much better than before, but my ROI hasn't budged. Most people seem to agree that at these levels a ROI of about 15% is excellent, and I would like to reach that before I move up.
So, my question iiiissssssss....should I bankroll and move up as soon as possible or should I continue playing the $6 until I'm winning more consistently? I've cashed out a few times and don't have the bankroll at the moment, but all-in-all I just want to see positive progress. |

welcome to the forums
it *sounds* like you're doing nothing wrong. please excuse my ignorance if i'm wrong, but i think the $6.50's which you are referring to are turbo games (possibly super turbos). with turbos comes much higher variance, so ROI's are going to be alot lower than for standard SNG's. this is offset by the fact that you can get a s**t-load more volume in.
an ROI of 6% over that sample space is pretty good imo - so you definitely know what you're doing. however, you can never stop improving. be self-critical - look through your game to find areas which you aren't sure about and post them here. it will open up your eyes to things you may not have even considered before (it happened to me!). aside from that, the only thing that will increase your ROI is more volume and practice. if they are indeed turbos, i doubt your ROI will ever increase dramatically - only your earnings/hour will through more volume.
i wouldn't move up just yet. keep it going until you become more confident, and soon enough you will be able to |

I know what you're talking about.
Improving game - not equal - improving cash
You need to find the games you're comfortable in. I like the 10+1 normal speed sit & go's. The most players are compotent. Many know when to fold. They understand more pot-odds, implied odds and stack sizes and so on then smaller buy-ins.
If you are playing a few years and like you say, have your skills well developed... Don't be afraid to gamble and take a shot.
But i can only talk about the normal speed s&g's, not the Turbo's. There not my kind of thing. But the bankroll i have doesn't go in steady line. It goes up, but with many fluctuations (or what ever how it's called).
If you are a solid player and have enough knowledge of the game, these buy-ins are your thing to starts from. I've played the $5 first but what i did or didn't do. It didn't matter. The cash didn't came. I just leveld for a while. I just moved a stake higher and it worked out for me. I must say i only play the s&g for only a month or two - three. |
