I'm in college and I'm used to drinking very very cheap vodka. The vodka that I'm used to drinking is so **** awful that I refuse to believe that any vodka, regardless of price, could have any pleasant qualities.

That's because you're not drinking finer more distilled vodkas. You can do the Britta filter thing and it will improve the taste, but for what you spend on filters and time to filter the stuff four or five times, you could have just bought a bottle of better stuff.

I wanted to try the Skittles-infused vodka, so I picked up a bottle of Smirnoff, which while not exactly bottom shelf, isn't the best, IMHO. There's a distinct difference between sipping that and things like Absolut, Sky, or Grey Goose.

Did you end up doing the skittles vodka? How'd it turn out? I've been considering trying that myself.

I did the Skittles vodka in small, single flavor batches. Filtering out the sugary solids that don't dissolve is a little cumbersome, but a paper towel in a funnel worked pretty well. I didn't try to extract the gummy vodka-core and eat it as a snack, though.

The strawberry had a bit of a cough syrup effect to it, but I think that's because of the Smirnoff vodka, which has a kind of strong alcohol scent/burn to it. The strawberry had kind of a syrup texture to it, making the liquid a little thick. The orange I think I had a little more vodka relative to the number of Skittles, so it wasn't as thick, but the vodka overpowered the orange flavor some. I didn't bother mixing the lemon, lime, or grape and instead decided just to finish the bottle and eat the candies individually.

Someone suggested using Jolly Ranchers, with the added bonus of not having to strain out the gummy stuff, but I haven't tried that yet.

I drank vodka for the first time about 2 years ago, it was that cheap $10 **** in the big plastic bottle. First I was mixing it with Mountain Dew, had a two or three coffee cups.... Then started drinking it straight, and I drank it fast. I got to where I almost blacked out, and I ended up puking on my uncles sofa. It took a few months to get the smell completely out. MD didnt taste the same for awhile.

Vodka is great for this stuff, when I was landlord of my pub some years ago we would make all sorts of flavored vodkas.

Chilli vodka was a personal favorite of mine. Prick some chillies of your choice and lob them in the bottle for a week or so, quite a kick to this one.

We tried coffee vodka, skittles vodka, rollos' vodka, bacon vodka (rubbish, do not try) and most anything we could think of.

Beer tends to turn me into a tart so these days it's exclusively vodka. Smirnoff black label is prolly the nices voddy I've had, over ice with a splash of fresh OJ, no hangover just good times.

So here's to vodka, turning nice girls into utter sloots for centuries...Hooraaahh!!!
