....with my new netbook, the Asus 1005HA premium model.
It has the standard premium netbook innards, Windows XP, non-cramped keyboard, 10.1" LED backlit screen, N280 Atom processor, 160GB hard drive, 1GB of ram (I upgraded to 2GB), winreless N, Bluetooth, 1.3MP webcam and a 6-cell battery that lasts up to 10.5 hours, and doesn't stick out the back like some do.
I've only had it for a few hours, but I'm smitten. It runs FTP fine (old lobby only), Office 2007 and lots of other lite applications, and plays YouTube videos nicely, just not in HD mode. They call it a netbook, but it does much more than just surf the net. It's plenty of laptop for most people. Best part, it's only 10" by 7" by 1-1.4" and weighs less than 3 lbs.
Isn't it purdy?

| I sold Asus laptops and mobos for 5 years and have an Asus laptop as my primary mobile system... I love Asus and never had any probs with them. They're as tough as old boots and slicker than snot. Good choice BNS. |

That's really nice, BNS. You're gonna have some trouble multi-tabling though. |

Kinda. It can with a neoprene carrying case. The unit fits in there snug, with no room for my make-ups. |

I was playing 6 table last night, one on top of each other. I'd rather stack the tables than make them smaller. It was running fine, with no lag. I wasn't running PT3, though. Eee PC netbooks come with 'Super Hybrid Engines'. By using the function key I switch back and forth between regular and super performance mode. To play more tables, with PT3, I may have to switch to super performance mode. |

From the research I did online (review sites, YouTube) I got a sense that Asus was well regarded. Negative reviews for the Eee PC 1005HA-P were very hard to find.
In Canada Asus laptops and netbooks are not that common. Our two big electronics chains, BestBuy and Future Shop, don't carry them. I had to go to Chinatown to find one in the colour I wanted.
Me: Hey, is there a food court in this mall?
Asian guy: Yeah, upstairs.
Me: Is it just Asian food, or is there a Micky D's or anything?
Asian Guy: Just Chinese, and Korean.
Me: Manchu Wok?
Asian Guy: HAHAHA.....no. |
