Recently in a tourny and limped in from the small blind with J 8 os and it was big blind versus small blind. He didn't raise preflop. Flop comes J 8 2 rainbow, giving me top two pair. I bet, he raises, I re-raise, ,he goes all in, I call. He has a set of 8s. How do you get away from top two pair? How do you play top two pair? Please help, or advise. Is it an automatic cooler?

Not open limping from the small blind with a mediocre at best hand is a good start.

Fold or raise pf. No need to limp here.

^^^ so do I actually. There is obv certain situations where open limping the SB can be good. I think just generally, in lower buyins, it's not going to be a good idea very often and with J8os I think this is one of those situations where it definately isn't a good idea.

I dont think rasing here is gunna be all that help full unless he 3 bets you pre flop and you lay down right there if it gets to the flop your gunna lose your stack here.

That being said i would have probably raised if i was going to play. Of corse knowing stack sizes and any kind of player info would be better as well.

What? You say raising wouldn't be that good then say you would raise? lol. FWIW, we don't have to raise just because we think we have a better hand. We can raise to steal the BB as well as having the ability to represent a bigger hand on other streets. Raising simply strengthens the range that villain can put us on.

Yes exactly knowing what the hands are it probbly wouldent be helpfull to raise if he is just gunna call cause we are still gunna get all the money in on the flop.

However just looking at it as random player in big blind and i have j8 im gunna riase to try and steal.

Basicly saying it didnt matter too much what he did the cards had it in for him.

fold preflop if early or late tourny.

If have big or mid stack, then can limp complete the SB with J8.

Postflop 99% of time your not folding, unless you have very specific player knowledge, reads, tells, and knows he set mines a lot and have seen him play a hit set mine this way in past a lot, then and only then would I fold 1% of the time.

Ive said this here before, but negreunu has a rant on High Stakes Poker about how raising in the SB when its blind v blind is a bad play (unless you have a big hand of course)..Unless its real late in a tourney. He thinks the BB will defend alot and then have position on us.

My biggest problem with these hands like you said is you got J8 top 2 pair on flop. They go all in, so I have to call! Or if I fold(very rarely)depends where money position is.. But Most time I call and get suck out by str most the time. That what I hate most on 2 pair flop. Or the other is say you got 2 small pair like 45 and he got AK and its 4A5 He raises so I re raise and he all ins.. then on the river it pairs the board making him win(with either 2 higher pair, or same pair now HIGHER kicker).
