TBH the 1-table sats for FTOPS events are a decent way to help build your BR (assuming you have the BR to play them in the first place)

Every 36 man 6 max shootout satellite I've ever played has been insanely soft. I love those.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll look into a few of the smaller field satellites, but as it is I haven't had the time to play even single table turbos with all my apps and school. I also have access to the free training for the first two weeks of the month, so I'll check out some 6max SnG vids if I have some time (thanks for filling me in on stox Smile). Maybe when I have some more time in the middle of the month I'll activate my biggest bonus and start grinding a bit.

Zach, I'd reccommend cutting back on the number of tables if you found that you're stagnant in BR building. Playing too many tables limits your ability to make reads and exploit people's tendencies.

Ya, I told myself that's the first thing I'm going to do when I get back to the tables.

What I did to build my bankroll was grind up a lot of FTPs from sats and then I'd use them to reg in the satellites to the Sunday majors like the Sunday Brawl or 750K gtd and unreg. for T$ if you win.

For those of you using the stox free training, is the HEM discount available only with a paid subscription or to anyone that shows up as an active member, including free trainees?

Has anyone tried to build their BR off satellites before? I've heard that 1 table satellite SnGs are generally softer than their non-satellite counterparts, but I don't really know anything of the strategy differences that arise from the different payout structure, although I assume you play a tighter bubble game with the top places getting the same amount instead of the normal top-heavy structure.

Is this a good way to grind up a BR? Would you generally convert your entire BR to T$ and continue to build up without real cash, or do you convert along the way through normal SnGs? Do T$ affect your rakeback in any way, or are they just treated as normal cash?

I'd appreciate any help!

On a side note, would it be worth buying Collin Moshman's SnG book from the FT store when I have enough FTPs? I hear good things, but I'd like to know if any of you have read it and if it has really improved your game.

Here's my thought on satelite SNGs. I'll compare three different SNGs, $1.00+$0.25 NL TH Turbo SNG, $0.20+$0.05 Satelite to the Daily Dollar and $1.80+$0.20 Super Sat to the Double Deuce. All of these are playing the same exact game with the same amount of people with the same blind structure.

Here are the payouts.
$1.00+$0.25 NL TH Turbo SNG
1st - $4.50
2nd - $2.70
3rd - $1.80

$0.20+$0.05 Satelite to the Daily Dollar
1st - Entry ($1.00 in TP, $0.95 in $)
2nd - Entry ($1.00 in TP, $0.95 in $)
3rd - $0.25

$1.80+$0.20 Super Sat to the Double Deuce
1st - Entry ($5.50 in TP, 5.235 in $)
2nd - Entry ($5.50 in TP, 5.235 in $)
3rd - Entry ($5.50 in TP, 5.235 in $)

In Aaron Bartley's challenge Sit & Go By The Numbers, he advises two very important things, that you almost never lose in 7th, 8th or 9th place and that your main goal is to finish in 1st, not in 2nd or 3rd. Unfortunately, many people aren't very good short-handed and could use some work. In order of placement, the first tournament requires the most skill, while the third can be done by a bit on skill and a lot of survivability. To turn a profit, you have to finish in 1st 1/4 of the time in the first, 1/3 in the second, and 1/2 in the third.. but if you make it a commitment to try to survive and play tactically instead of playing fast and aggressively, you should be able to pull off a decent profit (between 1/4 and 1/3 a buy-in) every two tournaments played with the last structure.

In my opinion, starting players and those who are not yet sharks can still make a decent profit playing satelites in which the last three positions are paid off equally, instead of racing the every time for first. With a steady bankroll, they can work their way up to the second structure which requires more chips and aggression to fight up to the top two positions. Finally, which a large amount of skill and experience, these players can be ready for a format which demands 1st and 2nd place almost each and every time.

..and as a side note, if players really want to build their bankrolls with TPs from SNGs, they should be playing real money SNGs when their bankrolls are build up in proportion to their skills.

I hope this helps.

P.S. - Don't waste your FTPs on books, use your profits to buy them IRL. ;]
