|
|
After late-registering in this freeroll I got dealt KK as in the hand history below. What happened feels like a really bad beat and I feel like I played the hand correctly.
But I think it was correctly played for tv-poker...
But, was it correctly played for a tourney like this...?

I would have raised more preflop. But that is not really the point.
You got the money in good and got sucked out on. People play like this in free roles.
Unlucky. |

I played a few freerolls of this kind before and I know that, if I raised pre-flop more, the guy with 5 2 would've called just as easy as he raised all-in....
so I can't really understand what difference it would've made....
I just feel indignant about this event. I got myself thinking now:
If I can't call an all-in with KK anymore on a 7-handed table while I know people go all-in all of the time with nothing and every hand that contains an Ace and I can't cheer anymore with trips kings post-flop and have a highly unlikely runner-runner nut flush see drawn against me....
Well, I feel like no hand is good enough anymore for an all-in. If you never go all-in in these tournaments, then you just will not win....
I mean, just do the math, in the most likely case you will see a board which contains a rainbow+1 suited card.
The chances the suited card is a clubs card is 1 in 4. The chances that also a third card is clubs is at least 1 in 4 too and the fourth is as well.
That's 4*4*4=64. So it happens 1 out of 64 times....
Well, I'm no mathematician, but the chances of having trips kings when having pocket kings already I believe is this: 2/50.
So it happens 1 in 25 times.
So I feel I should've won and the thing that makes it all the more cruel is that I had trips kings. Well, don't go play poker if you can't handle bad beats....
Next time I will go all-in as well.

That's kind of the point you should be happy about these bad calls

Of course you can why are you getting so bent out of shape over one bad beat. MTT's are high variance games.

Your odds of hitting a set are better than 1/25

I know I shouldn't care about a bad beat like this. But I'm just really a player that's keen on winning. I like the game very much, don't get me wrong. But I just feel it's kinda sad to lose the first hand, though I should be counting on the fact I'll probably lose the most of the tournaments when the donks aren't out yet. But I expected to be pokering all the evening, because I can tell I'm getting better and better. But then suddenly I lose the first hand which after the flop I was counting on to win( truly chances were 1:16).
I know I was right, this and that, it's just a feeling I should contemplate on and let it go to be a better player I suppose. |

I mean the first time you act preflop you push the max button and then click on the little button that says 1500- this is a freeroll still in late registration chances are you will get called by worse |

Well, what's the difference, 99% chance they would've called me anyway and I would've lost too.
I don't see the added value of going all-in pre-flop next to slowplaying all-in pre-flop the first hand...? |

Especially it has in common that it's a good pre-flop hand too and that it's 7-handed as well. Otherwise it's a little further into the tourney( though this time it's a face the ace). |

Preflop with 5 callers and a raise to 3xbb is to little. Even the ones behind you can almost call because they will know that the early limpers will call also giving them huge odds. Don't be afraid to push this hand preflop. In fact you only looking for 2 callers tops and take their stacks if possible.
The pot was about 400 already so you where pot commited anyway. Shove it in and hope for one or two calls. Don't see a flop with maybe 6 people with only little left, because it is going in anyway.
Let them figure out what to do. Sure, you want to make money with this hand, as much as possible. Do not go broke with this hand by trying to get as many callers as possible, there are suited connectors for this. Shove-it preflop in this circumstances. |

| This is not strategy. This is looking for sympathy over bad beats. Keep shoving, run better. |

Danduy:
I was a bit afraid to become to committed to the pot because I was scared to be beaten with pocket Aces I suppose as it happened to me before( prolly a selffulfilling prophecy because of not shoving pre-flop), without realizing I was committed to the pot already. Thanks for the lesson . |

Maybe it is. So what.
I'm just a complete newb looking for a little help. Poker isn't all about the cards. It's about the strategy. By posting here I'm trying to keep my strategy on the rails and hoping to get some comments to improve my game not only in this situations, but to overall up my game... |
