Downswings, beats, coolers, variance. All the terms we hope we never have to talk about but they happen. One thing to keep in mind is how lucky we are to play online in respect to these bankroll roller coasters.

Just imagine that a downswing that lasts a week for us online players would have to play out over months for the live players of yesteryear. Guys like Doyle and Cloutier would hit swings in variance that might take months to play out and we can work out that many hands in a week.

There are other factors to, such as multi tabling and tilt. We can get tilting and because we can stay in the comfort of our homes, get our BR's all beat up if we don't know when to pull up on the reigns.

Just a thought, any comments are welcome

Peace and GL .... see ya on the felt

One thing you got right is that we can play through our downswing, if we have enough self control that we know tilt won't affect us. I personally do that. I could never imagine playing like for money everyday, and then getting coolered everyday for a month straight(10hrs/day 22 days a month, thats only like 6500 hands, this is a joke online-I had days in which I played more than that and I didnt even have to play for 10 hours) would make me want to shoot myself. If I know I'm definitely beating the given stake and feel like I'm not tilting I don't mind wasting one day to just play though it.

I like to ignore the term downswing, I believe in just looking at the present tense. Although this may be wishful thinking, we must remember that each hand or game is an independant even not affected by events before it. If you can get your mind into that state then it makes downswings much easier to deal with for some people.
