Online Poker Forum - Did I play my AA vs 78o well or was it because the SB had me covered?

I have great respect for good Poker players and I don't know what to say about this fellow on the SB calling my ALL-IN. Perhaps he did not believe that I have the preflop nuts hand and when the board flopped a King as being the overcard and him hitting the second best card which is a 7 he courageously re-raised my 4,000 bet to 8,000 before I shoved all of my remaining chips. At the showdown I think he felt his dumbness when he saw my Aces. Unfortunately, it was a lucky catch for him with a "seven" on the river.

I don't feel too bad about it and I have accepted in my heart that POKER is really a game where everything goes.

He actually played it pretty poorly, there's a really good argument for folding 87off pre from the SB, its definately not a great hand and you don't have a lot of chips to play with, so he's not getting great implied odds either. OTF if he's willing to call the allin, he might as well check shove, it might force out a pocket pair under the king or a better seven, and he'd still have decent equity against a flush draw which would shove or a king, which would at least call the min raise.

OP, it's simple. He flopped a pair, and still beating AQo. Also if you DO have AK well he's got 5 clean outs, twice. That's 10%+10% (it's not, but maybe he thinks it is) and especially if you have a good, unpaired Ace, he's loving your action.

Or maybe he had a bus to catch in 5 minutes, and wanted to double-up-or-go-home.

PS: my guess he woulda played it the same vs. DixikTR or Sole Seeker or XiMaker, considering the action on the flop... I mean his min-raise is basically saying "I want you to call" there's no way you would fold anything but complete air, and your over-shove says "I have at least top pair" :sigh: but you want players like this at your tournament table, right?

The min raise is horrible. With antes in play you're giving him 4:1 on his call which is almost as good as the 5:1 odds he got for limping with his small blind.

If you want him to fold (you don't), you need to shove.

If you want him to stick around (you do), a standard 3xBB bet will give him the pot odds to call and build up a good pot.

Unlucky river, it happens.
