So I was flat broke back in June when my tags expired, and I kinda just let it slip my mind. Last night, I was driving back from my first day as a Grad student (Hydrology M.S. weeeeeeee!) and got pulled over for expired tags. They had me do a sobriety test, which I nailed, but the "must have hit a skunk" line flew like the proverbial lead balloon.
Normal registration fees: $57
Late fees: $100
Expired tags violation: $130
Possession (1st offense): $632 (Nevada sux on this issue, imo)
Sack of da kine: $40
Total damage: $959
Moral: Never break more than one law at a time! |

Fwoar cool, probably after a rave I guess. I was once in a police chase, injured some schoolkids and went back in time when I hit 88 mph.
Btw OP I get charged $500+ in rego fees without violating any laws. |

I went to court for this today. I entered a "no contest" plea. (This is key, people, either plead "not guilty" or "no contest", never "guilty". Don't admit a damn thing.) They gave me a $300 fine, $100 of which I gotta pay, the rest is in community service.
This works out good for me. I have no problem helping out the community, but I sure hate to give the gov'mint any more money than I have to. And the community service is at a local park/community center, so I won't have to walk alongside a freeway picking up garbage in an orange vest. A friend of mine helped put on a soccer tournament with his service.
So, total damage reduced by around 500 bux, and now I get to move on. Not quite a profit, but as good an outcome as I could have hoped for.
Remember: Get your damn tags, dumbass. |

| %99.9 of the drug charges incured in a MV come about due to people doing something silly, speeding, rolling through a stop sign,ahem...driving with improper eq or expired plates............if you think that cop pulled you over to write a measley $130 exp tag ticket you are mistaken...and FWIW...... this how the majority of people who have outstanding warrants are caught as well. |
