|
|
I've got about $90 in my bankroll. I am definately a SNG player, I do not play cash games. I used to only play the 6/9 man sngs, but now I've been moving up and doing okay in the 27, 45, 90 person tournaments. What level should I be playing at to sustain my BR and still win decent money?
Ideal type (where i play best):
No Limit Holdem SNGs
Regular/Turbo/Double/Knockout
9 Handed
9 - 90 players
In short:
What $$$ buy-in should I be playing with $90 BR |

Alex I have a preference for the 45s.
I would stretch the BR a little and play a couple of the $5.50-45s.
If I dropped below $80 would go down to the $2.25-45s or the $5.50-18s
I always loved the $2.25-90s when at that level, Wish they had them at $10-$20
Still play the $8.80-180s lots of fish there.
Basically stay at or near 5% of your Bankroll in MTT mabye 7% in the 18 mans.
Dont be afraid to take a shot higher but just a shot, not a lot, you will go broke.
And if running bad drop way down mabye even to the $1 no matter what your BR |

The most important thing for your BR is to play a game where you have +EV. If you're good at single table SnGs, play those. If you're good at MTTs, play those. If you're good at supersatellites, play those. They all involve different skills.
I know you say you're not a cash game player, but those are the best for folks starting out. FR cash NLH is fairly low variance, and has a pretty low buyin comparitively speaking. Plus, it's easy to learn once you pick how you're gonna play. You can shorstack 20 BB and just play preflop/flop, or you can buy in for full stacks and play strategy on all the streets.
That said, since you said you like SnGs, the next lowest in terms of variance is probably your single table SnGs, because they pay out 33% (2/6 or 3/9) of the field. That's why Ferguson recommends 5% of your BR in a Sng, but only 2% in a MTT. Those 90 man-KO-turbo-doublestacks are essentially MTTs for BR management consideration and deserve only 2% of your BR, because they only pay out 10% of the field (plus a few lone KOs). However, SnGs are by far the most complex game on FTP, since you have to deal with bubble play and ICM and changing stack sizes and changing numbers of players at the table.
One thing I'll shine a light on: Matrix. If you can 4-table effecively, these are a -GREAT- bargain. They lower your variance a TON, and lower the rake while doing it. Playing a 6 + 0.50 matrix has about the same variance as playing five 1.20 + 0.10 tournaments. Perhaps a little, since the "fifth" matrix prize pool is dependant on the other four tournies. Still, it's a good bargain for a low limit player. The main problems are: 1) that you're multitabling, and 2) You're playing against players who might be a little more advanced ($6.50 matrix probably has harder players than a $1.20 SnG, even though if players understood BRM they'd understand that they could be less nitty with BR in a matrix tourney.) |

Good grief disregard most of ny post above!!!!!
Must have been having a senior moment.
Stay 2%-3% of your bank roll in MTTs
45s are almost MTTs so take a shot now and then at 5% |

| NoTilt, I think I'll take your advice about the Matrix tournaments. I just did a $1 - .20 sng and I came in first, placing first in 2 of the 4 tournaments. I had forgotten how fun they are. As for the MTT, I suppose i'll stick to the 90 person $2, and for the single table SNGs I'll play either $2, or $5 if I'm feeling lucky. I have to admit i'm used to playing with a bankroll of about $20 or $30 which i first had just to try out Full tilt, but I went broke. Now that I have this much I should be able to be a little less tight with my BR and take a few chances (like $5 SnGs). |
