Villain seems to be well above the average competency level for a $2 SnG. I hadn't seen how he would handle a 3-bet PF while heads up yet, so I wanted to see his response to that; did not expect a 4-bet.
My thinking on the flop: he is most likely 4-betting me here with a strong ace or mid-PP-ish hand, so the only thing I'm really concerned about here is AT. I think if villain has a high PP, he just flats my 3-bet and lets me hang myself on the flop. Normally, I'd say that this is overthinking my opponent, but this guy definitely had a brain to work with.
How insane am I to shove this flop (or to even call the 4-bet PF, or to even re-raise in the first place)?
Full Tilt Poker, NL Hold'em Tournament, 50/100 Blinds, 2 Players
-
Hero (BB): 6,612
SB: 6,888
Pre-Flop: (150) 9 7 dealt to Hero (BB)
SB raises to 300, Hero raises to 800, SB raises to 2,000, Hero calls 1,200
Flop: (4,000) 9 T 2 (2 Players)
Hero bets 4,612 and is All-In |

Snap-fold PF to the 4-bet. If you're stubborn enough to see the flop, I guess you've got no choice but to shove.
Also, how can you put his range for 4-betting at middle PP/Big Ace? Even that his range may be as wide as that, a lot of his range is TT+.
I disagree with the theory that he's not 4-betting PF with TT+. |

Hard to tell here, beside the fact that you're insane, nono just kidding, what his hand could have been.
Only things i can say are:
- I would have just called his initial raise and the pot only would be 600 in stead of 3600 with 79s.
- On the other hand i sure like the reraise you made but it got countered and you play out of position the rest of the hand. Next time you got to let go, even with these odds to call. (I think he wanted you to call here and not push you out).
- I can't criticize how you played the hand. For me HU is very complicated and you need to take every detail of your opponent into consideration when you make deccisions.
But you have played it aggressive and that's good. Good luck in the future. |

This hand looks vaguely familiar lol. I'll put in my 2 cents anyways. (keep in mind I'm not an expert in HU play, and may not be completely unbiased )
The 3-bet pre is acceptable imo as a variation play.
After that I think you have to have a plan for what to do postflop before making your preflop decision and I'm not at all sure you did. By flatting the 4-bet you are calling off over 20% of your remaining stack and only have slightly more than a pot sized bet behind. Implied odds for a suited one gapper here are obv not a legit reason to continue.
Are you check/folding every flop you miss? That's a horrible plan. Are you shoving in like every flop hit or miss? I prefer that to the above I guess but it ends with you bluffing off your whole stack pretty often completely needlessly.
I just don't see a call here preflop as being good any way you cut it. In extreme circumstances with decent reads I could see a shove instead of a flat, but you need to think the villains 4-bet is full of it a pretty significant amount of the time (and that he's not just playing lotto poker and will fold the weakish but better than 9 high hands to a shove), and given that you weren't even expecting a 4-bet that's probably not the case. Fold pre to the 4 bet. |

I tried to edit it the tiniest bit, just in case you saw it so you wouldn't be biased. I guess that didn't work.
I'm not an expert at HU either, so some of the things I do can seem kinda weird. I wasn't actually thinking in terms of stack % when calling the 4 bet; I was more in terms of stack size vs. current blind levels. If I have to drop it after the flop, I still have 4k-ish left... which I feel more than comfortable with, but maybe that's because I'm used to the normal $2 SnG roadkill.
Also... I felt that my best shot at winning was probably hitting a homerun - a.k.a. playing a big pot against you and winning. TBH, I was pretty sure I was overmatched, considering how much more experience you have compared to me. I figured a long, drawn out HU battle with you was -EV no matter how I sliced it, so I decided to go for it. |

You would actually have just under 5K in your stack, given the blinds are only 50/100, if you mucked to the 4-bet you would still have enough for some good post flop play. |

| If I read it right, this is the first time you've 3bet pre flop? If so, that probably makes his 4bet that much more legit, since people usually just give the first resteal to you. Also, unless you have reads that he is super tricky, why would you think he flats big pairs preflop. I don't mind the 3bet at all, but you have to dump it to the 4bet. |

I think he called and showed 88, but it was a week ago now so I could be wrong. |
