Played my first HU games tonight and 3/3 so far . I feel I played pretty well with the exception of one bad push and possibly this hand, but tell me what you all think.
Only 15 hands in and villain is playing pretty tight and slightly passive. Seemed to be a thinking player, although he limped a good amount of buttons. He did play back once or twice since I'd been pretty LAG from the start, but nothing too crazy.
Do you raise this preflop? For the most part I've been playing small ball LAG poker and especially trying to keep the pots small OOP. Are the flop and turn bets ok? Nothing seemed too out of the ordinary for a passive villain OTF and OTT, but is getting more than 2.5:1 enough justification to call OTR?

I don't mind the check there...I don't like getting too aggressive with A rag and if you hit an A, it's well disguised. But a case can be made for raising pre.
I like the flop bet, though I might have bet smaller. A pair of As is a pretty big hand heads up and if he's passive, you might chase him away with a pot bet. I might bet like 70 there.
Once he calls, I might check the turn, to keep the pot small as you say. You're either way ahead with top pair or way behind trip Ks most likely, so I'd rather check. If he reads that as weakness, he might pay off a river bet or you can pick off a bluff by him. He might be on a flush draw, so checking is a bit risky, but I'd be a little worried about behind trip Ks or maybe only being in a situation to split against his A rag.
On the river, it's a tough fold, not sure I would fold. But I would be worried still about the trip Ks. Could have a busted draw, but would he have called two pot bets with a draw? And if he's been passive, would he be likely to have called two big bets on a draw and ballsy to make a big bet on the river? Again, not sure I fold there, but I think it's probably right. I'm only saying that because my guess is that you are posting this hand because you lost haha. |

i think the hand was played fine, though i agree with betting a bit less on the flop. turn could go either way... i think checking is probably slightly better just for pot control and since you aren't folding to any reasonable bet you get just as much value from flush draws anyway.
the river is a very annoying spot but i think i am tempted to call here just because you're getting decent pot odds and i'm not sure a passive player would be betting many aces for value OTR, with the excpetion of perhaps AQ/AJ. i do expect to be losing to a K a good amount of the time though. |
