Why?
And shouldn't people that are winning players at poker not be thinking up the tasks, because I thought the purpose of these challenges was to improve the learner's comprehension of the game.

Folding the nut low is almost never the right thing to do in limit O8. Even if you're getting quartered, there's often enough in the pot to make the call profitable. If you're playing the PL version and it's been potted and repotted ahead of you and you have no shot at the high, then I can feel safe folding.

I know this is a NL task...not what many have been clamoring for, but...

DEFENDING/ABANDONING THE BLINDS:

1: Fold xx, yy, zz, etc. from the BB k times

2: Fold xx, yy, zz, etc. from the SB k times

The hands should be moderately strong. An analog would be the "fold KJ from UTG" task.

3: RERAISE OR FOLD! Don't call in your blidns k times in a row

The analog for this would be the Ferguson "raise or fold 100 times" task. Doesn't count one way or another if you're in the BB and it's a limper. Counter SHOULD reset if you call in the SB.

4: In a session where you see the each blind k times, have a loss in the blinds of no more than x BB

The lesson here is that you SHOULD have a loss in the blinds, but it should be small. It's like splitting 88 against a dealer ten in blackjack: your goal isn't to win more, it's to lose less.

This is a good outline for a challenge and does deliver a solid lesson. We don't have a lesson on playing the blinds yet but do have plans for one. Will save this for later.

Maybe a general idea (if someone said it earlier, sorry), but what about some challenges that focus strictly on the limit game. A lot of people do not know how to play these games well. It may help some improve their Limit game, while exposing them to more of the Omaha and Stud based games.

How about "take a bad beat" proplay get allin w/70%+ equity and lose. everybody hates a bad beat. playing good poker and making +EV plays should be your focus. this would take some of the sting away and incourage people to get it in good.

How about the Gus Hanson challenge:

Win a pot with 72, 73, 62, 82 or 83 (3times)

Win a pot by check raising with no pair (2 times)

raise or call a raise preflop 5 hands in a row

get a call when you have 2 pair or higher after the river (2times)

Pro play- leave a table with 3 or 4 times what you started with

This set of tasks would drum up some action in the Matrix SNG's. Additionally, the challenge would not necessarily favor NLHE.

1. Play in a limit, no limit, and mixed game Matrix SNG
2. Earn 10 KO points in a single Matrix SNG
3. Earn 16 Survival Points in an individual Matrix SNG
4. Cash in 10 individual matches in Matrix SNGs
5. Win the Matrix Pool 3 times in 8 or 9 handed Matrix SNGs.

Here is an idea for a 7 Card Stud variation challenge.

1. Play 40 cash hands in one session of 7 Card (stud/Stud8/Razz). Repeat 3 times.
2. Raise on 4th with 4 cards 8 or lower (Stud 8/ Razz).
3. Fold a split pair 10s or higher when two players at table have Aces showing on 3rd street in Stud or Stud8.
4. Cash in 5 Stud SNGs or MTTs(Stud/Stud8/Razz)
5. Win 3 Stud SNGs (Stud/Stud8/Razz)

Here's an Omaha 8 one while I'm at it.

1. Scoop the pot with a high hand (no qualifying low).
2. Scoop the pot, winning both high and low.
3. Cash in 5 O8 SNGs.
4. Show a profit in 3 PLO8 or NLO8 cash sessions of at least 30 hands.
5. Cash in 3 O8 MTTs.

If any of my ideas work out, I'd love to test them.

JMJGP, I like your suggestions. I, for one, would like nothing more than some non holdem challenges. We're going to have to be patient though. The Academy only has the capability to track NLHE games at the moment. They can track where you finish in any tourney, but as for specific hand tasks, they're only able to track NLHE.

do a 90 man challenge, perhaps by phil ivey, make it a final table or survival challenge?

task 1: dont get all in the first five levels of 90 man
task 2: KO 1-3 players that have half your stack or less
task 3: hold the chip lead for at least 3 hands during tournament
Pro Play: Make Final table of a 90 man

needs to be a couple other tasks, but thats just off the top of my head

and hey Phil Ivey is at the final table of Main event, play it up!
