i have been thinking about playing for a living for a while now, but i really want some advice. basically playing poker for a living is all ive wanted to do for the last year or so and its kind of my dream....
i play 2/4 LHE 6 max and full ring,dependant on the table. i have a 3BB win rate/100 at 2/4(after 25k hands) and do take shots at 3/6 if the games are good. now the money i need to earn isnt anything massive as im 19 years old and still live with my parent and am currently unemployed due to being laid off, i would like to earn about £100 per week which is about $170. i multi table between 2-4 tables and i do have rakeback which is a pretty important factor. logging hands doesnt really bother me and i can play long sessions if needs be but i prefer a couple of short 2 hour sessions a day but i do play for longer if im playing well and the games are good. i have done some maths and worked out it is possible but i would like a second opinion if i am starting to soon,or if you have any experience of what i should be aware of, i am also rolled enough for it,i have 600+ BB for 2/4. thanks for your help and i look forward to reading your replies |

| I advise you not to play LHE. It is impossible to win, by that i mean consistant win where you profit months after months. I know this because i use to play LHE and came to the conclusion that it is impossible to win. Too many bad beats and things that makes you pull your hair out. The only real way to make money is to play those mini tourneys. I usaually play those 75$ 45 plys tourney. If you place the reward is so much better, and it is not that difficult to place. I dopisited 500$ and to date which is just 1 month my bankroll is at 4500$ so im up 4k in 1 month. focus on your tourney skills and play the mini tourneys the only way to make real money. GL and see you at the table. |

| it is possible to win but it can be frusrating. my advice is go back to school at 19, get a job after college and keep playing poker in two hour sessions like you do now. |

college then job. the money you play grinding will not amount to the potential you can make getting a job. you can always play on the side and if you hit a nice run then you can play full time. its never safe to put all your eggs in one basket. the same thing you would do with bankroll management is the same thing you should do with your life....that is unless you like living on the edge |

I'm trying to get better at poker and have won a couple of MTTs. That being said, I'm also 19 and figured everything out. I too want to be a professional poker player, but go to college first. Sure, it is good to have a college degree as a crutch if poker doesn't work. But the college experience is something that you cannot replace. Last year was the funnest year of my life just because of the whole college thing. You have your whole life to play poker and try to become a professional. But you only have a few years to prepare for that future. (And you can still play lots of poker in college) |

me=confused.

^ the stats from March 2009 thru August 2009 say you are:
0.86PTBB/100 @ 2/4 LHE 6max after 10300 hands, and
1.13PTBB/100 @ 3/6 LHE 6max after 10195 hands.
Not saying I'm any better of course, just saying it seems these results are different than what you have convinced yourself that you have been experiencing. Seems like you have done more than just take a few shots @ 3/6, and seems like you are only hitting a 5 PTBB/100 type of win rate at the headsup 1/2 tables (which is quite good, considering how crazy the variance can be at that rake-kills-you level... No wonder you put so much more time in at the 2/4 and 3/6 levels) |
