Im usually more of a cash game grinder , but I've been playing a lot more MTT's and SNG's lately. Ive been thinking about bubble strategy a lot. As far as SNGs go, I think you should tighten up or continue to play tight as the bubble approaches. I have been multi tabling 7-10 SNGs at once, and my goal is just to make the money, not to win.
On the other hand, I think that in MTTs, the bubble should be completely ignored. I think it would be more profitable in the longo run playing hard for first in MTTs, seeing as the payouts are towering at the end. I dont think it is worth it to play supertight just to bust out after the bubble. Your hourly rate in jthat situation ends up being horrible.
Just my opinion, would like to know others... |

+1. target those who are scared of going bust before the money. best in my mind are medium stacks - ~18-30BB's. they could possibly coast into the money, but also don't want to tangle with anyone on the bubble in case they bust. play aggressively
in regards to SNG's, your thought should be "play to cash, then to win" |

Depends on how you're running/your chip stack/etc.
Sometimes you get shortstacked near the bubble and you just try to min cash to get something out of it. Unless you hit a huge string of cards that people call you with, your chances of running deep aren't that good so you might as well get into the money and then try to take advantage of people who will call looser.
If you have a nice stack around the bubble, that's the time to start building your stack for a push to the final table. |

See this is when I start going after what I call "short stack leverage." I look to go after people who's stack is less than double mine. They won't want to call me and switch places with me... so they won't call lightly. This obviously results in a few bubbles at the expense of mincashes, though I've also made it to the FT when I was in the bottom 10% of chips nearing the bubble as well. |
