| Before I started playing online poker I played live whenever I got the chance. I played mtt, stt, and cash games live and not just against the same people everytime and I would win. Now I started to play online poker and I would just lose. I am already down about 150, depositing about 50 at a time and i dont know what im doing wrong. |

Could be a number of things.
- Too small a sample online
- Players are better online
- You're playing with bad bankroll Management online
- You are used to having more time to think about decisions live
- You are actually bad at poker and have just been on a heater live.
I could probably go on, just get the gist I think. |

Well from my experience and what others told me about the two types of poker, there are a few differences between playing live and online. And so to be successful making the transition to live or to online some of the skills that are useful for one type may not be useful for the other. If you rely heavily on reading you're oppenets that ability will be handicapped online because all you'd have are betting patterns and timing tells, not that you'd get much from them. Also its much harder to talk to your opponents and engage in meaningfull discussion which some pros use for reading and others for talking someone into making a bad play.
Online poker is much more mathematically based. about knowing things like pot odds and hand equity. Its still important to know where your oppenet are at but online its much harder to narrow that range. Best to try to use their position, how they played their hands previously, and what type of style they're generally using i.e. TAG, LAG, nitty tight? As for the other reason for using conversation, its much less effective than in live poker, but can still have an effect on you're oppenent, but texting online just can't be as effective as in live. |

| nemesis147 is right I play live almost every night . BUT about 2 months ago I torn my calf and couldn,y get out so decided to play some poker on line. After losing $200 I decided to watch rather than play and I noticed 2 things 1st if 2 or more players go allin with cards to come the weakest hand usually wins eg A8s KK QQ KK is the best hand but it will lose to the weakest hand in this case the Qs will make a set to win . 2nd and this happens ALL the time if you make 2 pair or a set and there is a str or flush draw and you bet and get a caller. the caller will make his or her draw. Pick a table to watch any table any comp and you,ll see this happens . I played in a comp tonight $10 buy in 404 players folded to any allin got down to the last 16 . flopped aQ to go with my Pocket Qs , but there where 2 clubs on the board and 1 player allin I know that if I make the call he,ll make his flush but I have no choice and I need to make a move ,so i call he turns over Ad 3c and sure enough turn and river CLUB CLUB . If you want to play for cash avoid any allin,s and watch for the draws if you make 2 pair or a set but when you get to the business end of a sit n go or comp you will get caught by the bad draws . ps you will also make these bad draws against other players |

Two totally different games. You cannot just expect to be good online if you are good live. The skill set required is different. |

I deposited $50 at a time too for about 8-9 times and lost them all every time.
$50 is not enough. Deposit $300 and play what you played with the $50. |

When dealing with something as serious as challenging the reliablility of something like online poker I'd rather have something more reliable than a set of bad feelings. I've been playing online for over a year now and while I have seen some pretty sick beats I don't believe they come more often than live. If you had kept a record of your hands histories then there might be something to it, but poker does have a very high level of variance to it so you would probably need a larger sample than what you have so far. |

No, just no. Stop.
I've played 500+ games on Full Tilt and have never seen the weaker hand win more often then the stronger hand in any MTT tournament I have ever played. It's happened during 6-person SNGs and short ring game sessions, but simply because those were small sample sizes and it's still pretty rare. Don't come spouting such complete nonsense without a good sample size to back it up.
It's asked for over and over again but no one ever does it (even though it's easy to do, they probably don't because they look at the hand history and realize how wrong they were), but show us a extended hand history from a long MTT or something, and then maybe you'll have some evidence, but to post one hand, or no hands, just shut up. |

there are so many different scenarios and games and limits online that you have to do your research and take your time before you decide what game your going to play you cant take every bad story to the bank, because plenty of proven stories really have taken thier stories to the BANK LITTERALY!
this forum has suprised me with how much great info it has, i wish i found it years ago! |

The transition from live to online has been tricky for me to. Lot's of information I used to get I can't because of the nature of online play. You can't see tells unless you are taking notes on betting and card playing patterns. Notes are required if you ever want to do well online, IMO.
Because of the ability to multi table and how fast you can play online, it does seem like the beats happen more often BUT it isn't rigged. They make enough money that even considering rigging it would beso counterproductive as to be ludicris. Thats like saying ebay is ripping people off, with all the money there is absolutely no upside to stealing for them.
I have personally witnessed on 2 occasions LIVE where quads were beat by royal flush's. If it happens online people start screaming " that never happens live' well it sure does.
I have also gotten into the math of poker, odds, outs, EV etc, Online you have to play the math more than the player, at least till you get some good notes.
Peace and GL ...... see ya on the felt |

I think its weird that people really think, that FTP would favor one player over another - how would that profit them?
I just called an all in with three kings against three 4's and won it - the person that went all in the first place, started japping about how it was full tilts fault and so on. THIS DO HAPPEN, its note FTP fault that you lose! |
