For the few hands I've seen, villain has shown to be passive pre flop and aggressive post flop, constantly taking stabs and barreling people off their hands which is why I decided to trap here. What would you do OTR though? Standard lead, shove, or check raise like I did?

| If he is as you say so, I'd like the line, except shove the river. No sense leaving any money out there (I know it's .50, but still) |

| I think I lead the river mostly, but something really stupid like $9.99 or something, hoping maybe he spazzes on me. I don't think a c/r is bad though given your reads. Rest looks completely fine, nh. |

| based on reads i like your line. most of the time i would lead this river tho, as i'd be worried that he might check back again after checking back the turn. this can sometimes look really bluffy as well esp. coz we're OOP, which is good. aside from that wp. |

Awesome hand! It looks like a beautiful play all the way through against an aggressive post-flop player. Let's recap:
You're pre-flop raise of six times the blind was just right in my mind. It should have been enough to chase just one player away, particularly the UTG who you described as "passive" pre-flop. As it turned out they both called making for an already sweet pot and your still the favorite against both of them.
I would no longer consider the UTG as "passive," though since he limped in with a marginal hand out of position.
You flop trip As! Your check OTF was brilliant! He had to figure you for some strength given your big pre-flop raise, but was led to believe the flop missed you. He probably put you on Qs or a lower pair, so he raises with his As. Not knowing what he had, you probably put him on two pair, AKs, AJs or (less likely with a seemingly passive player) KJs. Since your trips didn't have much to fear, a call was appropriate, and your trips well-disguised.
You hit the nuts on fourth street and you wisely check again. The J seems to have missed him, but now you're wondering about that. Does he smell a trap after all? Is HE betting with a middle pair.
The 9c OTR was likely inconsequential in any case, and you already have a nice pot. The only way to extract more of his chips now is actually by checking. If I were him I would have checked behind you hoping that my As would have stood up. But he falls right into your trap by raising and you put him all-in. For some reason he calls you immediately, probably thinking you were attempting to steal the pot. Just what you wanted him to think!
Congratulations! |
