Horrible call preflop. You have a terrible hand in terrible position and have to cold call a big raise. One of the limpers might decide to reraise here and then you're really screwed. You say you know what you're looking for. Don't know what you mean by that as you don't have any nut draws. I'm comfortable continuing on very few flops to this hand. The only great flops are QQT, QQ5, QQ3, TT5, TT3, and A24 of which you're not likely to get any further action on any of these flops. You have a trap hand. A hand that looks playable, but will cost you big $$$$ when you're behind and only win you small pots when you're ahead.
As played, I check raise pot to get all in or close to it on the flop. You have a monster draw and want to get it heads up to have a shot at 1/2 and maybe scoop. You should have a live draw to either or both 1/2's if you can get heads up. Keeping this a multiway pot just ensures that you get none of it unless an Ace spikes. But think about it: The aces are likely in the other players hands. Calling on the flop is quite terrible because you don't have a nut draw either way. If you call, you entice a naked nut flush draw and a naked A2 to come along. If these guys hit, you're not getting any of this pot. Leading out for a pot sized bet would also be fine.
The turn call is fine since you're priced in.
On the river, you have to call $70 to get $231. This is a pretty easy call. You only get scooped by A high and K high flushes with A3 or A5. However, this is a perfect example of why you should not play this hand at all preflop. You hit just about as good as you could hope for and have the 3rd nuts for high and the 3rd nuts for low. Yet there's still a decent chance you get no part of this pot. |

| Lol, ah with experience comes wisdom. I folded an almost identical hand about an hour later UTG w/o calling the .50. Noted for future reference, thanks vector. Would I be able to play this with position if I'm able to get in cheap, or if say the Qd were the Ad can I make that call to see the flop? |

I would call a min raise with this hand in the BB or limp along from the SB if no one has raised. Otherwise, I'm folding this hand preflop even on the button. It's just a trap hand that will be too tough to play profitably postflop.
Changing the Qd to the Ad makes this a totally different hand. You would now have the nut flush draw in diamonds and the nut low draw with a backup wheel card. The AT combo could be good for broadway or top two pair. In other words, you would now have a hand powerful enough that I'd be comfortable raising with or calling raises with from any position. I'm only folding this hand if I have to call two pot size raises and reraises cold out of position. |
