I'm in about 40th place overall. Since finishing 40th or 5,000th amounts to the same (I already qualified for the 2010 ME freeroll w/ a Top 10 freeroll finish in Event 25), I'm swinging for the fences in the ME w/ the hope I can strike gold and get a Top 5 finish and that elusive jersey... that means 5 very low consensus picks on my A team... it's gonna be a total crapshoot. I'm going to need one, maybe two to make it to the Final Table... not gonna happen, but I'll have fun trying and rooting on my picks.
It's been a great ride this season... thanks to all who have contributed to this thread, especially Feihua whose posts are always entertaining or informative... sometimes both |

got another freeroll for 54! 56 is a bust for me. I tried redoing my picks the day of the event but they didn't take because of the system glitch. The only one I have on that list is Shorr as an A for a total of $51813. I think in the list that didn't get saved I might've had Deeb and Katchalov but had Shorr out. Where's my hat? Come on Full Tilt! Post it so I can claim it! I'm gettin antsy! |

Thanks to all for the individual stat postings. Congrats to all who have won hats or better as well as to those who qualled for the freerolls. This is my first year playing FTP Fantasy Poker and it has been both fun and challenging in keeping up with who is running hot and who is not. Looking forward to next year and perhaps a Jersey!
Best of luck to all

This has been my first year too. I just remember getting my internet back up and running around this time last year. Having the "fortune" to notice I just missed out on the fun and games (and FRs), thinking "Oh! Well that's just marvellous" But not this year
S' funny how much easier it's been this time with the internet and no job rather than the opposite - how else would I have been able to actually play them FRs at 2AM UK time otherwise.
Just gotta say again what a great league this has been and how much it's opened my eyes to the other variants. Am really pleased with mesel to discover that HORSE, is nowhere so scary / complicated as I previously thought around only a month ago.
Am hoping there may be a similar league setup for the WSOPE, anyone have any idea?
#55
(A) Daniel Negrean $7,223
(B) Hasan Hab $7,223
gained me another $36,115. Not too great (yet again - STILL not even a cap - ), BUT thankfully enough to keep my 13th place overall. Fairly confident I'll be able to keep in top 100 for a pop at the 2010 seat BIGGIE FR (Not sure about getting to top 5 but, have got the cream of the crop already selected for ME so what happens, can only happen).
GAGH! Is gonna be a long twoooo weeks.
Will be in the S8 in 1/2 hour - see ya there. Good luck to all else in that one. |

| interesting fact: if the only player you had in your lineup was Vitaly Lunkin as an A player for every event, you would have earned $8,088,915 going into event #56 and would be in 42nd place overall. |

Nice little nugget. It's also no surprise that the top few on the leaderboard have benefitted mightily from Lunkin's success.
Woot, I cashed for a buck twenty five in tonight's freeroll.
Ok, I may change this before tomorrow, but these are my current A team selections in the Main Event:
Benefield... don't know much about him, but he's often near the top of the chip counts and made a Top 100 finish last year, so he's been there before and knows what it takes.
Gerasimov... seems about as solid as they come.
Minieri... hyper aggressive, but if he catches a rush of cards, he will accumulate a huge stack in a hurry... could very well be one of the first players out also
Mikkelsen... made a deep run a couple years ago... hey, why not... he's "one of us". He will probably be on very few A teams, so it will be like hitting the jackpot w/ this long shot.
Fricke... he may be a freak, but coming in 2nd in the Aussie Millions a couple years ago was no fluke... he's good.
Anyone else wanna give a preview of their picks? |

I tried to stay with those who usually do well in the ME, usually do well at NLHE, and some "gut instinct" picks. A couple of them are not consensus picks yet. It's a crapshoot, so I hope my mixture of ages, games, and skill will work out.
A
Juanda- I think I take him every year, thinking he's due
Matusow- Seems to run pretty well in ME
Bonomo- Good enough to make deep run
JC Tran- One of the more consistent NLHE players leading up to ME
Hawrilenko- How is he not a consensus? Has had an awesome series
B
Kravchenko- Been playing well in a lot of events
Germasinov- Has had some recent NLHE success.
Giang- Another one who has been playing well in multiple events
Nam Le- Always a threat at NLHE
Black- Had a solid series, been here before
C
Raymer- He's overly due for a good result again in ME
Ramdin- Seems like he's been playing well leading up to this
Madsen- Says he's hungry for a bracelet, could be a factor
T. Chan- First of 2 longshot sleepers, kept seeing his name in prelim events
T. Tran- Hunch play, expect him to make a run one of these days |

Nice picks, Skeeter. I had many of those players on my radar too. Matusow does so well in these because he's patient, but seems to know when to pull the trigger on a bluff and when to bet to get paid off huge... kinda like Cantu and Arieh... people end up paying these guys off because they have an image of being a bit reckless.
I think a guy like Giang is at a rather disadvantage because of his age... playing 12 hours for 6 days straight is geared perfectly for the younger players. Even Doyle Brunson has admitted that he has trouble in these tourneys because they are marathons.
Of course, guys like Rahme and Harrington have done well in recent years, so you never know.

Not MBJ news, but the PokerRoad picked up two more jerseys in the last three events. In fact, PokerRoad league regular evilroy lost to PokerRoad newbie in a tiebreaker as they both finished in Event #55 with an overall topper of $196,761 on Juanda, Negreanu and N Le.

Cheers Pete, Well I was until busting out 46th just now - 1 shy of the £3 bubble - ooooh. Was starting to get very confident at one point as had 1st place for quite a while. Sorry, but must brag again as is another one of the new types for me, so am chuffed enough overall. Is funny i've seemed to do better in the non HE FRs than the HE.
But yeh, had a good enough run - considering is now 6AM over here. YAY I don't have to be at work today, same as every other. |

so i had no idea who this kirill gerasimov was,
seems like a very solid player
then ZOMG i saw this on wikipedia: (makes sense that once ur opponent see ur cards and still wants to shove all in knowing ur not calling unless its a total bluff. Its still pretty sick cause lots of donks might do this with A high or any low pair.
Kirill is also known in poker circles for making one of the most amazing calls in WSOP history when after thinking his opponent had checked he in turn checked and then showed his opponent his hand which consisted of a ten-high, missed flush draw. His opponent then claimed that he himself had not checked and after a floor ruling was allowed to bet. He bet all in and Gerasimov, feeling that this was a bluff, called winning the pot with his ten high. |

Hawrilenko won event #56. I had him as a B, so his +$2,000,000 vaulted me into 133rd in the overall standings. I now need to hit something in the ME if I want to get into the final 100 overall. I'm hoping it's one of my "A" players.
GL to all in ME. |

Here are my picks for the ME. You still have an hour if you want to steal any of them lol.
A Players
Peter "Nordberg" Feldman - He's been fairly hot the last few events and not too high on the radar.
Erik Seidel - One of my favorite veteran players. He has what it takes to go the distance. Considered a great all around player, but truly excellent at NLHE. He won Foxwoods not long ago.
J.C. Tran - Certainly one of the best NLHE tournament players. His results are just sick.
Shaun Deeb - Having a decent series and just coming off a decent cash in the $5K 6max.
David Pham - NLHE is his best game and he always seems to be making a run.
B Players
Eugene Katchalov - Like Nordberg, he's hot right now and under the radar.
Juha Helppi - A more veteran Finnish player. Like Gerasimov below, he is capable of making some sick reads. Also coming off a couple of cashes.
Nam Le - Another talented player.
Michael Binger - Hasn't done as well this series as the last 2, but the Theoretical Physicist has what it takes.
Kirill Gerasimov - Caught a lot of attention and publicity when the WPT was first being televised. Haven't heard a lot about him since, but he's a great player and been on a hot streak lately.
C Players
Josh Arieh - I hate his attitude, although I hear he's mellowed a lot since 2004. Can't deny his talent though once he gets a big stack. Relentlessly aggressive and dangerous like Cantu, Raymer, etc. with the big stack.
David Chiu - A quiet and silent guy generally. Took down the WPT championship 2 years ago. One of my semi sleeper picks.
Sorel Mizzi - A great player. Don't agree with his actions online, but that was a couple of years ago. Can't pull that stunt live anyway.
Humberto Brenes - One of the veterans of the ME. He knows what to do to make a deep run.
Jared "Wacokidd" Hamby - One of my favorite players. He made a deep run in one of the $1500 events I believe. Hope he can do well. Not to mention that Waco is only about 100 miles from me. |

Here's mine:
A Player Hasan Habib
A Player Phil Hellmuth
A Player Mike Matusow
A Player Daniel Negreanu
A Player Vitaly Lunkin
B Player Men "The Master" Nguyen
B Player Chau Giang
B Player Gus Hansen
B Player Scotty Nguyen
B Player Kenny Tran
C Player Thor Hansen
C Player David "Bakes" Baker
C Player Matt Hawrilenko
C Player Theo Tran
C Player Justin Bonomo
1399th OA with a little over 4.5 mill made. 12 freerolls and 1 hat. Not as good as last year when I had 15 fr's and 2 hats.
I think last year I had a better idea who was hot and not. I was relying too much on their history this year and not enough on what they're doing now. There are a few that stick to NLHE but 99% of everybody plays anything.
GL in the ME everyone! |
