I have only one beef with the scheduling of the sit and learn freerolls. They were scheduled the same time as the Iron Man tournaments! It would seem that the Academy would recognize that many of the players who qualify for Iron Man freerolls are also going to be qualified for the sit and learn freerolls. Why are these scheduled on the same day at the same time????
It was tough to play 20 freerolls that only advanced you to the money tourney the next day. Add in the fact that you are also playing for money in an Iron man tourney, all at the same time, and it was difficult to handle.
Otherwise... all went well. Cashed in the Iron man tourney and qualified in 16 of the 20 sit and learn freerolls. Not a bad day of poker in my opinion!

Um, geez....you only need to qualify ONCE to make it...so win one of the early ones, and then just donk off the rest.
Winning the extra tourneys isn't that much +EV. Instead of a theoretical 415 person tourney, you knocked out 15 people in 101st place, making it a 400 person tourney. That's an increase in value of about 45 CENTS for winning 15 times...or 3 cents each time you knock out a person. (Calculation: 5000/400 - 5000/415). I don't know that the number of people who qualified is 400, and I can't check it because FTP's down....but I bet it's somewhere around there.
Also, keep in mind that some of the 101st people you knock off will be post-and-folders who might actually have qualified in ANOTHER tourney, so the EV is actually 0 in that case. |

The last time I checked it was 516 people who advanced to the FTPA $5K. So... I am obviously not alone in playing multiples and thus assisting all who do so in reducing the field size for the real money tourney. I cashed in it last month and plan to do so again.
Playing 515 other villains is much preferable to playing against 2000 (or the stated 2500 max). That was my main point. As for the small +EV to which I had an effect on... your point is valid. When multiple others do the same, however, my estimates (which are consistant for 2 months in a row now) are that the field size is reduced by better than 60% as multiple others play all of the tournaments.
If you click "finished" and go through and check the qualified names in each of the freerolls, you will find that most of the top 100, in each, consist of the same names.
As with everything poker... there is plenty of variance. Working to reduce the size of the field one is about to face in a $5K tourney is worth the effort in my humble opinion.
I respect your right to disagree and the validity of your point as to one individual's effectiveness in using this technique. Thank you for your thoughts and input.
Respectfully,

I think his point was that you chose to play the extra freerolls when you did not have to, and yet you are complaining about that.
And all the bonus type freerolls are scheduled for the weekend, so there's no way around it. |

I was not complaining... just suggesting that perhaps the Iron Man and the Academy freerolls could be scheduled for different days. There is a point to playing all of the Academy freerolls as proven by my 49th place finish as compared to his out of the money 421st position. It is good practice... which is what the Academy is all about. Right?
