What do you think? Genius or lunacy? I was amazed when he flipped over his hand. I must admit, I've tried this type of play before, but never gotten it to work. I've even had it where they called my raise on the river w/ only the pair they have showing. So what do you think? Is this guy absolutely amazing or just a lucky donk?

WOW
I rather think it was his first ever stud game and he didn't know what to do: so whenever there was this call button he was clicking it,....
this was how I played my first stud game also
I choose cheaper buy ins though |

No, I know he wasn't that bad. I played w/ him a while and he wasn't a calling station. He also started w/ the 4th 9, so he knew the other guy didn't have trip 9s. |

| [b]I think he picked off a bluffed set and forehead had to put him on the jacks, even though there was no raise on third, to call like that, especially if he was playing a tight game as you suggest. Or he might have clicked fold by mistake. |

i'm thinkin A's as well, they were live.
forehead could have been value-betting 9's up.
GWSgnfishin had a reeeeaaaal ugly board, and might have bluff-raised
to represent A's up or trips on 7th.
This looks like an .05/.10 metagame move, I would leantowards w/ BP's theory.
However, this IS 3/6... based on Strasse's take on him thru the session, this guy is balla.
[took some cajones to show that down, too ... and he probably went tighter than Bangkok snatch for the next 10-15 hands ] |

Appears to me he was chasing the queen for a straight, maybe felt he would hit the queen. He didn't get it so re-raised in hope to get a fold. I'm not good at stud but understand how to play it and seem to be chasing straights and flushes a lot, so why I'm thinking that here.

another likely theory, but there's a dead Q out and he getting crap pot odds. What I've also noticed is forehead's lack of a crying call on 7th, unless he only had the 9's. GWSgnfishin had his ugly board w/ 2 high cards as a primary plan, with the gutshot catch as a backup, as this is a typical 5th-street fold, even HU. This was PLANNED from 4th as a stone-naked bluff.
Likely a solid hard read on forehead's style. If it was a soul read, I doubt he would've shown down.
Dude could be a hi-limit stud/8 psycho as well |

| He could have also been doing what I will do at times if I am feeling really really ballsy and the situation is right. I like to play pretty tight which can mean that if I am playing with the same people for a while that they will fold to just about anything I have lowering my pots to just about nothing. So Ill start randomly bluffing what hands that look good on the porch hoping to get caught. Mind you it usually takes a few hands before they call me on it so the loss from the one hand is made up by the others. Anyways it means that I start getting called again and my pots are decent once more. |

What do you mean catch? He didn't catch anything, he bluffed the dude. |
