In a home game last night, the winner of this hand was disputed.
Hand - A 2 4 5 8
Hand - 2 3 4 5 7
Which hand wins Lo and why?
Thanks |

75432 beats 8542A because 7 is lower than 8.
You always make the 5 card hand starting with the highest of the 5 cards. The way you wrote it makes me think that you're assuming that you start with the lowest of the 5 cards, which is incorrect.
You can also think of each hand as a number, with the Ace being 1.
75,432 is less than 85,421. |

Very nice. I hadn't thought of that. |

Thank you very much. One player believed that to determine the winner of the low, you would start at the low end moving to high end to compare hands. My understanding was as you say.
Sadly, it turned into an unpleasant evening. |
