this is for the math guys out there. today I played $1 $2 heads up for about 10 minn. no one else joined the table. we booth started with $20.
at the end adding our totals together there was onlt $36 left.it got me thinking, my question - with a full table of 8 players each starting with $20 with no one leaving and no new $ added and an average pot of $20 - how long will it take before everyone at the table is broke? |

Well, full tilt takes .25 for every $5 in a stud 1/2 pot, up to $1 max rake. So assuming the average pot is $20 ($1 rake), and everyone starts with $20 and doesn't reload or take off the table, it would take 160 hands for everyone to go broke. ($20 x 8 players = $160 on the table)
HOWEVER, there is one thing you have to realize. If no one is reloading, as the hands play on, the average pot cannot sustain $20 because everyones average stack begins to dwindle. So, realistically, 8 players who start with $20 each could play forever without all of them going broke. As some of them go broke, the amount of max rake lowers. In addition, as the players left approach a small amount of money, no rake would be taken because the pot size would never exceed $5.
So, mathematically, it would be impossible for everyone to go broke. Even if one player goes on a massive streak and busts everyone at the table, he'll have all the money and no one to play with!
And to respond to the title of your thread, the rake is not too much. In fact, its only 25-50% of what you'll see in a live casino. Not to mention you don't have to worry about gas, food, and tips when playing at your computer. |
