|
|
I started playing Stud .25/.50 yesterday.
It seems like some people just seem to call all the way down. The annoying thing is they seem to get rewarded for this terrible play with backdoor straights and flushes.
I had rolled up sixes and the guy called me all the way and had the cheek to bet with his two pair on 7th.
There is absolutely no strategy to their play and I find the thought of them thinking "I'm so great", when they keep drawing out, very annoying. I feel it is my duty to make sarcastic comments in the chatbox. such as
"you realise you were only winning becuase of variance?"
I know it is probably good when there's a few people calling against the odds. When everyone does it you have no chance to win with skill.
Anyone else relate to this? |

| Yep. Sounds about right. You'll see / make a lot of crying calls on 6th/7th where you're actually ahead, but think there's no way you can beat your opponent. |

| So you're complaining that a guy bet into you with two pair when you had trips? Why? Just say Thank You and move on. Unless variance is hitting you really hard I find it nearly impossible to lose money at .25/.50, .50/1, 1/2, 2/4 stud online. |

I think bad play pays off less in stud then most any other game. In that situation, with rolled up 6's, yes you had a big advantage but what did your board look like? A bad read is not necessarily bad play.
Was the straight the only hand he could have been going for? Remember, with rolled up 6's you have only one 6 showing and he could have just put you on a big pair in the hole. He could have figured he was getting the odds to call if he felt he had more outs then just the straight. |

nah I'm not bitter about losing. In fact I've had more success playing this than hold'em so far. I just found their smug little avatars annoying when they kept lucking out and winning pots.
thanks for your replies. slick I can relate to what you say about it being hard to lose in the long run. Although someone else on the forum I recalled said that you should have 500xBB in your bankroll because of variance??
Sloshhedzeus I can't remember what he had but it was probably not a decent draw as he was calling everything all the way down. |

500xBB is pretty standard for all limit games. I think that's a little on the tight side of the spectrum. I've heard a lot of people recommend 300 - 500xBB depending on what reasons you're playing for. IF you're playing for a living or really trying to build a BR, then 500xBB is much better. If you're playing just for fun then you can really play with however many BBs you want. |
