You were about a coin flip on 4th, and probably a dog or only a slight favorite on 5th. Luck of the draw in that situation.

I think you played 5th way too hard. I can't see myself justifying the raise on 5th given the action on 4th. I think 4th is fine because your two pair is very likely to be good and raising can hopefully limit the field so it stays as the best hand.

Here you were willing to cap 4th after just limping in on 3rd, he knew you had to have 2 pair at the very least. Now all of a sudden he shows an open pair of queens and still bets out? Unless you had a read that said he was the biggest LAG you've played against, it was very likely he had you beat already (and in fact he did have the better hand.)

It was the way he played the hand - limped on 3rd, then raised me on 4th. It told me exactly what he had, which is why I wasn't worried about the pair of Q's showing.

One of my notes from Perry Friedman: "I love the raise on 4th - everyone tries that ... and it telegraphs "I am drawing" - bad play; want to draw cheap, get out cheap if you miss. Strong if made, nothing if it isn't."

I'm never overly fond of a 2pr to overpair situation in Stud with 2 cards to come. You're likely not to improve(down to 3 outs w/a 4 burnt), where there certainly is still a good chance that they will pair up.

The problem is, if you read him correctly as an overpair and a flush draw, you are still in a bit of trouble. However, one thing your raising DOES do is get the pot heads up. And since your opponent was short stacked, it's not so bad to get him all in right there. However, with the hands in question, you need to realize that you were actually behind. You were almost a 58/42 underdog.

One of your 4's was dead, and one of your K's. Three of his spades were dead (and one 3) but his Q's T's and 5's were all live. His hand is actually pretty strong there.
