| Well answer me this: what would you attribute the poker boom of the recent years to. Internet or TV? Both? Which played the bigger part? |

| My point being. That the gambling interests in the US have a lot to gain by the eventual ban of online poker. "let em get hooked online, take it away and here they come running". |

| This is essentually a non-enforcible law. How can they monitor your activities? To monitor you activities, ISP's would have to provide law enforcement w/ that information and I dont think that's legal or feasible. They cannot force the poker sites to provide information on their clients for the simple fact that the poker sites are all outside the US and therefor outside US law. The only way that anyone will be caught by this ban is by someone informing the police to their online play and then either the police have to catch you in the act or gather electronic evidence against you. Like jaconda said, the online poker sites need to be brought to the US where they can be regulated and taxed by the US. |

I could not agree with you more!Thats exactly what I would like to see happen, base a subsidiary(sp?)of the company here and just regulate it.
I do not agree with a national ban. |
The online poker rooms most all WANT to be regulated and taxed by the US government. They would love to set up shop here in the US, and they want the regulation and the taxation that goes along with legality. |

Without reading the bill or knowing any details, this sounds suspiciously like the indoor smoking ban that passed in Florida about three years ago. There is no plan for enforcement, nobody knows who's responsible for enforcing -- landlords, tenants, employees -- and nobody knows who can be arrested and held liable if someone decides to light up in a restaurant or someplace. So you have a law with no enforcement. It's rare to see anyone light up inside anywhere here. But at the same time, there has been no one arrested or fined that I know of in the three years this law has been in existence.
My question as far as the Washington online gambling ban is what is the plan for enforcement? Will Internet activity be monitored? How? By whom? Will ISPs be required to monitor this? Will cops bust down doors if they hear of someone playing poker online? Will banks be told to alert authorities when money is transferred to a Neteller account or something? I can't figure out how this would be enforced. And without an enforcement plan, how can the law possibly have any teeth? |

I live in WA. and am FURIOUS over this law.
State Senator Margarita Prentice has made her bed with the Indian tribes within this state. She and they are the ones benefiting from this new law. Period. To make it a Class C felony? The first word I got of this bill was after it was passed. No doubt at night. While I slept. Apparently in order to enforce this "law" your privacy may be at stake. They are contemplating doing everything from requesting bank statements, credit card activity and even getting the ISP's involved. I wonder what the ACLU has to say about all of this.
If you live in WA. WRITE those that count. |

Not so. 1) it has been banned in WA - the only way to keep it from passing nationwide is to write your congressmen and make your voice heard; 2) the "not a gambling site" notices are for the .net versions - if you are using a .com version it is indeed a gambling site; 3) tons of people drank alcohol, but prohibition was still passed. And this is far more likely to stick than that ever was; 4) Be careful of loopholes - they can burn you very very badly. |

there is ways to stop local laws i hope you all know. i was actally thinking of getting someone too write one up and spread it around and get on the local hippie news and talk about it..
its the lame democrats in wa office that try and shut it down, all the 'nays' were the good ol' boys - republicans. |

| Do you mean "there are ways to get the WA law repealed" or "there is no law banning online poker in WA?" Because if you said the former, this thread educates people and makes them more likely to act to stop it. If it's the second, please explain to us how we're wrong, because I'm pretty sure there is indeed a law that bans online poker starting June 7th. |

Its a law, on the books and enforcement is going to be a bear...however i can see some nasty ways it will be enforced. For us that have gone through divorces its not a big leap to see our soon to be ex spouces doing the "right" thing and turning us in all it will take for proof is the bank statements. If you have a disgruntled employee, girl/boy friend, spouce or buisness partner watch out your only 1 step away from being put in the same pot as a rapist. I am lucky, I live close to Idaho who has no such law, and their econ is much better than washington states so a move may be in order for a number of reasons. The whole country is looking to do the same thing as washington (must protect the children, children being any person from conseption till death) so time to let our fingers speak and stop this proabition in its tracks.....its too late for us in WA. |
