raising with suited connectors to STEAL is fine, heck even stealing with junk like J5o ... as long as you are not committed to ANY more barrels after you are called (or raised, ldo) ... didn't see the hand mentioned by OP, but lately in satellites I have noticed a lot of people stealing with low pairs or ace-rag, but when their steal is re-shoved they seem to figure "this hand is better than junk, so I gotta call for the pot in case the shover is re-stealing" lol -- so many times I see A4o or pocket 66 do the raise-call and when I see the showdown I quickly note that player as a LAG-donk who will call so light that re-shoving QJs might be +EV if headsup...

What were the stacks and position in the 53s hand, OP? (or anyone)

I think Kopp made the mistake that a ton of people playing the micros make: he tried to make a play that is over the head of his opponent. Plays don't work if the person doesn't really understand it, and I don't think Moon understands that you aren't really supposed to get into a hand with the other big stack without the absolute nuts or close to it. Against Phil Ivey, it may have actually worked.

Just watched the clip, wow... a check-raise is so RARELY going to be a bluff here (i.e. Moon would RARELY be doing this with a draw to a better flush) but a small % of time it might be that your opponent turned trips -- so obv. you are okay with playing for stacks with your microflush. But geez, stack SIZES gotta matter here, I'd let it go knowing there is a non-zero chance that my opponent had 2 higher diamonds, but even if he showed face-up the trips or even the nut diamond draw, I would probably wait a long time -- until Tiffany Michelle calls the clock on me -- then fold it just in case my opponent luckboxes the river.

btw that 20million gain was a BIG chunk of Moon's starting stack @ start of final table, was it not? Maybe he should be giving Kopp a certain % of his final winnings Wink

What makes this hand even more bizarre is that apparently Moon did not realize the board had paired on the turn!

The pairing on the turn was the best possible card to be paired. It's unlikely opponent has Deuce-anything, so unless Kopp had exactly KK or 99 and had flopped a set (possible, due to the betting action) I doubt anyone -- not just Moon -- would be worried about facing a boat on the turn. Even if he noticed it was paired Wink [funny interview, where Moon almost argues with the reporter who had correctly described the board]
