U-N-B-E-L-I-E-V-A-B-L-E
Phil Hellmuth opened to 24,000 from under the gun, and as it folded round to Steve Jelinek in the big blind he raised the action to 76,000. Instantly Phil Hellmuth stood up, threw his hands in the air, did a lap round the table and sat back down. "All day" he uttered before eventually folding one card at a time; Ac 2s 5s Js. As the fifty-plus onlookers watched the commotion, Jelinek rolled over his Ad Ah 9h 2d. "Unbelievable!" screamed Hellmuth as he stood up yet again. "Can you believe this?" he directed towards me as I stood only feet from the table. "Everytime I get Ace, Deuce, Five, they wake up with Aces. I've had to lay down Ace, Deuce, Queen, Jack I don't know how many times today . . . this is ridiculous" Hellmuth continued. For all you Hellmuth lovers and haters, the most successful WSOP player of all time still remains one of the short stacks with 37,000 in chips.
Does Jelinek obviously have a nut scoop? In a nutshell can someone tell me what Phil is crying about and why he won't play this hand? |

| Helmuth is complaining because he is a whiny ****. He used to be a good poker player, but the poker world has now passed him by. The only thing he has left is compaining when he loses so that some people might actually believe he is still one of the best in the world. Helmuth is f-ing joke as far as I am concerned. |

beside the fact that Phil indeed complains a lot:
A2xx is a very playable hand in O8. against some massive raising/reraising you want to consider laying it down often tho.
AA2x is one of the finest starting hands in O8. it has some huge potential for the high and low. (AAanylowX is very strong too)
laying down A2xx and opponent shows AA2x, means you made a good laydown, but is still disappointing, since A2xx is a great hand to play.
maybe compare it to a situation in holdem where you get AJ often, run in reraises all the time and your opponents show AK after your fold repeatedly...
i hope that helps.
on a sidenote: showing Phil the folded hand to tilt him, seems to work prettyx fine xD |

He's aggrivated because he has a great hand and with J's raise he knows it's not the best this hand and must fold it and unable to play or win. A2 is great to have but a great player won't put all their chips in pre on a possible low split pot. They will have A2 with some power stacked behind it.
I think Phil is still a good player. He did win the HU cha
pionships a few years ago did t he? Against he top world players. |

Oh, you are right. You didn't. I guess that just means that since Hellmuth is a "f-ing joke", then you must just be downright pathetic. |

Helmuth is a "f-ing joke" compared to other professional poker players. You never see Ivey, Negraneu, Brunson, Greenstein, or any other pro berate players for what they consider to be a poor play. Helmuth is the only one that pulls crap like this.
As far as actual poker playing ability goes, Helmuth is a one trick pony. He is a good NLHE tournament player. But as far as cash games go or any other type of poker goes he is far below average as compared to other professional players.
I never said, or even implied, that I am personally a better player then Helmuth is. But according to you I am not allowed question someone elses action or poker play unless I feel like I am a superior player to them. That is the dumbest logice I have ever heard of. |

There's nothing unusual about this hand....absolutely nothing. Phil was obviously getting picked off prior to this hand, and must've been tilting/steaming a bit up until this hand. He's a whiny crybaby. We all know that. It is what it is, in that regard.
He did go a bit overboard, though, as if his open raise hand was a great hand. It's definately at the low end of an UTG raising hand, and he got picked off by a nice re-raise by a great starting hand.
Phil is whining because that's what he does, and he's not playing his hand to a re-raise because it's not worthy of playing once it gets popped.

It's really not a great hand, especially when the Ace isn't suited (or double suited), combined with not having many worthy straight possibilities......and it's complete garbage when facing a re-raise. |

| A2XX isn't worth squat vs. an obviously better high hand in a HU pot. Its value is in multiway pots where you can hit a low relatively cheap and actually profit from half the pot and freeroll for the high. |

It's annoying when you get 3-bet all the time. Most players aren't as vocal as Phil is about how annoyed they are.
A25J vs. AA29 is about 35/65 fwiw. |

| I'm assuming they were playing PLO8, which plays much more like PLO than limit O8. In that case, A25J doesn't play well HU for another big bet. Was a good fold. If this was limit O8, it's a snap call. |
