Hi, I'm currently going into college, I'm 19 years old, and I'm intending on getting my masters in finance. One class that I will be taking is statistics. I chose this class because I thought it might help my Razz game! What do you folks think about that? I see razz as somewhat like blackjack. Is it possible that if you were smart enough, that you could master razz? Do you think my stat class will help me with my razz game? (it as a class about algorithms in it haha) I decided to switch from holdem to razz after a couple of months of holdem, because holdem is more about playing the player, not the cards. I'm not very good at getting a read on my opponent, and I except it... but I am fairly good at calculating odds, which I feel will give me an extreme advantage at the Razz tables. Do you think I'm going in the right direction? Thanks for the opinions. |

| Hi, I took a statistics course in college, and it was one of the most practical classes I've ever taken in school(I'm a biology major). I don't think it will help you too much with razz, but it is valuable non-the-less. I think if it helps you with anything regarding poker, it might help you with understanding the variance involved and analyzing your stats with something like poker tracker, but won't help you very much while you are actually at the table, since the only math used then is simple odds calculations, which you don't need statistics for. |

+1 only really good for analyzing the data of what you have already played!!! With enough compiled data you can setup up all sorts of fun(im a nerd) stuff like curves and everything else!! |

Poker is based on observation. If you can't read players well, you must practice. Yes, razz is the most mathematical game after deuce-to-seven lowball, but if you can't read players, you will still probably be very easy to read and might make money at low to mid stakes, but never with good players or in big MTT's where observation is key. Still, give it a shot because razz is very mathematical. |

I'll also say the class couldn't hurt for multiple reasons; But Razz nor any form of poker involves counting cards
any Stud game (where cards are played face up) is a memory game.
You have to watch and remember what cards were dealt up from the beginning of every hand.
It's memory. |

stats was a cool class that i imagine alot of people who like poker might enjoy. Will it help your razz game.
Maybe it will but probably not as much as just reading a good razz book with examples or discussing it with successfull
players. Razz is definetly math oriented, but reads and histoies on players are equally important once you get beyond the basics |

I agree. But like I said, I used to play NL holdem, but after losing a lot of money I chose to switch over to Razz. After playing both for a year now, IMO no limit holdem is about 60% reading your opponent, 40% mathematical. Razz on the other hand, I think is 60% mathematical, 40% reading your opponent. What do you think about this? I'm not terrible at reading my opponents, in fact there are times where I feel like I'm reading them like a book. But it is safe to say that I am far more skilled at math then I am at reads... again why I switched games. |

| I am a razz specialist. I play atleast 50 hours a week on this site, mostly 5-10 and 8-16. Razz is a game that can be played correctly by alot of players so game selection is very important. You should watch the players and get into games where there are players making clear mistakes. |

Exactly what I try to do. I also keep track of bad players and search them and join heads up games with them. Thanks for the idea. |

Check out this website...http://blackjackscience.com/
That is a site that you can find everything you want on card counting. As stated above, sorry don't know who mentioned it, I'm to laxy to look back! Poker does not require counting cards, that is only used in blackjack and it is very hard to do in todays casino's. Many casino's have switched to auto-shufflers to stop card counting |

I will use word and just type the up cards when I am playing in a full ring game. Since suits dont matter in razz this works fine. |

I think this is a very good idea. I will ask the weakest players in a ring game if they want to play heads up. Isolating the weakest players is very profitable. I will stay away from the heads up specialist there are much better spots. |
