80/160 blinds and 660 players left in the tournament, 162 players make the money. My stack was around 5k and average was around 6k. I get AK offsuit in the BB and it folded around to the SB and he makes a raise of 480, his stack was around 9k. I decided to push and he showed 77 and won the hand. After the hand was over I really didnt understand why I made this move.
1.) My chip stack index was over 20, so i did not have to push the action like I did.
2.)I had position
-I beleive i should of just called the bet of less than 1/10 of my stack to see a flop first. If he had Ax he would of probably folded to my reraise all in, so i would get more chips out of him if the ace hit the flop. If he had pockets then I was risking all of my chips to win a little more than 1/10 of my stack to a fold, or a coin flip with a call. What would you guys have done in this position and why?

Hey dain. Welcome to the forums. I'm not trying to be an azz here, but I figured I'd tell you this before someone else does, since they will most likely be an azz. If you're going to post and ask for advice, You need to provide a CONVERTED hand history. If you dont know how to do that I beleive there is a hand history converter sticky in this section. No one is going to take time to read this and try to figure it out. Its your first post, so I understand that you didn't know. For future reference though, you're going to want a hand history, and you're going to want to cut the results off so no one can see them. Just show the action up to where you question your play.

Edit: and I apologize if this is a hand from a live game...I just always assume everything is online. There are still better formats to show it if its from a live game though.

You're never going 3 bet fold with 20 BB's left, so getting all in was going to happen either way. But by 3 bet shoving instead of doing a standard 3 bet, you might shut down some of his range that we would want him to 4 bet shove, like A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, KQ ect ect ect. So if we 3 bet to about 1200ish, he may think he has some fold equity and jam the bottom of his range, opposed to folding the bottom of his range. I dont really like the idea of a flat here though since you only have 20 BB's and even with postion you dont have control of the pot and your going to have to shut down on alot of flops. Also if he does happen to have some kind of coin flip sceniro, then you have alot more value seeing all 5 cards.

Haha...just proves, as I said, No one wants to read through this and figure it out. (and I can't do basic math to figure out how many BB's his stack it)

I think even with a 30BB stack my opinion still stays the same.
1) Standard 3 bet to open his range more.
2) Get all in if needed, seeing how he called a 30 BB shove with 77 and only 3 BB's in the pot, he is obv a spaz.
3) Win your, at worst, coinflip.
4) Ez game.
