Im not gonna lie... it's been a good day for me down at 2NL. I would just like more experienced players' reflections on this hand... if my bet sizes were good... if the call on the river was good (I figured that he couldnt have a 9 given preflop action) etc.
So here goes:
Full Tilt Poker, $0.01/$0.02 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 8 Players
LeggoPoker.com - Hand History Converter
UTG: $1.94
UTG+1: $1.43
MP1: $2.56
MP2: $0.77
CO: $1.88
Hero (BTN): $2.04
SB: $1.63
BB: $1.91
Pre-Flop: K A dealt to Hero (BTN)
2 folds, MP1 raises to $0.06, 2 folds, Hero raises to $0.20, 2 folds, MP1 calls $0.14
Flop: ($0.43) 4 6 9 (2 Players)
MP1 checks, Hero checks
Turn: ($0.43) 2 (2 Players)
MP1 bets $0.43, Hero calls $0.43
River: ($1.29) 9 (2 Players)
MP1 bets $1.29, Hero calls $1.29
For those bothered with the result...it can be found here http://www.pokerhand.org/?4830871

| Yeah, once you take control of the hand pre, you really should most often bet the flop. And if it were me, and I was going to get it in on the river with AK high, I would have jammed the turn while I still had outs to making a hand. Personally I wouldn't call the river push, without a very good reason. |

Sure he probably doesn't have a nine and quads are really unlikely, but he might still hold 33 or 66 for a set or TT, JJ and didn't feel comfortable getting it in pre. BTW the looser players may still show up with a nine like 98s, T9s or even A9, this is 2NL after all. |

With a possible flush draw OTF, I would have raised about two thirds the pot to gain some info. If he raised then, I would have considered folding, although I would consider myself to have at least six outs times two, and I'd give myself a fraction of an out for the backdoor nut flush draw. My raise could have represented a strong pair and not have given him the odds to call.
The turn gave you the nut flush draw, but your pot-sized raise was too weak. I would have recommended a raise of twice the pot to chase him away. As it turns out, you would have won anyway had he called such a raise. |

I guess the orthodox play would have been to raise the flop. I don't know why I didn't... I usually always protect when a flop like that happens.
However, I put that bit about the turn in bold because I never made a pot sized raise on the turn. I called him down because considering what was on the board, I dont think he would have anything apart from pocket nines which is rather unlikely (he was pretty tight so I doubt he'd call a 3bet pre with sixes, fours or twos...) |

| Gotta cbet if you're going to 3bet PF. You have position and there's no reason to give him a free card. Probably about .25 to see what he does. Calling down pot sized bets with AK high is fairly spewy unless you're looking to make a move on the river or something. |

I haven't posted in this thread before for some reason, but I really don't see why people insist on betting the flop. Sure we usually pick up the pot when we have the best hand, but we pretty much never fold out better or get called by worse and villain will probably have a better hand pretty often.
I think the calldown is fine as well. Since we took a pretty weak line we can probably expect villain to barrel off with the air portion of his range more frequently than normal and there's either a ton of air in his range or hardly any 9x+. Given that so many people at these stakes also won't be betting worse than 9x for value on the river, it seems unlikely that villain will show up with a better hand 2/3 of the time or more. |
