Most of the table is shortstacked this late in the tournament. I feel like I should either shut down long before the river or at least shoved the rest of my chips in on the river since there was no chance he wasn't betting.

I'd check/fold the flop, and I'd consider just folding PF, but making a standard raise may not be bad.

Once you got called OTF, I'd probably be shutting down there.

I would just fold pf utg with AJo, you still have a big enough M to wait for a better hand/position than AJ utg. Let the blinds go round and be looking for a good position to steal or get it in when you have a better hand.

fold pre. almost every stack behind us is a perfect reshove stack. plus you're UTG

i think i check/fold flop. that hits a big part of his range. as played after flop bet c/f turn

Anyone shove preflop here? Same stacks, I'm in LP I certainly do it... No stacks are big enough that they can call us lightly.

Shoving pre is bad imo. I think folding pre is better. As played I usually always have another crack on the flop given that his flat often lends itself to a PP and this flop smashed our range. Certainly just shutdown or shove OTT, shutting down being the obvious choice without reads.

I probably do it but it might not be best... for the reasons that you mentioned.

I definitely don't like opening without the intention of getting it in OTF... we are a little too short for that. Either shove or fold pre imo.

BTW OP: You are way too short to take the line that you did and give up on the river. If you are going to play the flop and turn like that you may as well puke and shove the river. But you definitely should give up OTT after he calls you OTF.

im defintely shovin preflop wit this M...theres no way im foldin ace jack in this spot....a shove is probably the best move but given ur spot u either move in and hope for the best like the above post said, or just check fold which may be a route i take sometimes given my feel for the situation or wat kind of player ur up against.

You guys realise we really aren't that short at all for this stage of a tournament and stacks on the table. Shoving pre isn't good imo. Stealng from UTG at this stage is just silly. And that's what you're doing if you shove since you'll only get called by a better hand.

FWIW, I wasn't saying I wanted to shove... just wanted to hear other's thoughts on it. I definitely agree you're only getting called by better. Probably 80-90% chance it folds around though... at this stage its probably an unnecessary risk for the potential award.

Fwiw I don't mind a standard raise given that I think some of those resteal stacks might come in alot lighter than AJ. But if we're called by a big stack and miss im certainly never taking it past the turn.

fold preflop

c/f flop

As played on those 2 streets, I think I like check/shoving turn. I don't see him playing the Q here without a reraise, so I check- let him juice up the pot a bit and come back over the top of him. He will lay down any Kx besides AK imo, and if he has the Q say GG.

M ~ 7 is not shove/fold mode. Sure it can often be more profiable and less exploitable to shove. But it doesn't mean M ~ 7 you have to shove at all.
